CULTURE AT THE CLUB

Ideas, people and experiences beyond sailing.

For more than two decades, the Gstaad Yacht Club has brought its community together around ideas, culture and discovery. From music and literature to medicine, art, history, film, science and global affairs, the Clubhouse has become a place where members encounter people and subjects far beyond the expected.

We discovered

Christian Levett brings together the worlds of collecting, scholarship and public access. A former investment manager, his lifelong fascination with art evolved from collecting ancient coins

We discussed

Levett's journey from private collecting to creating museums reflects a belief that art gains meaning when it is made available to the public

What stayed with us

The most lasting collections may be the ones that change how we look. Levett's work reminds us that there are always stories still waiting to be found

FROM THE ARCHIVES

2006–2009

Conversations beyond sailing

Alongside a shared passion for sailing, members found other reasons to come together: a book, an idea or a personal story. Cultural evenings offered a different kind of discovery, shaped by curiosity and the pleasure of listening to someone with a new perspective.

2010–2014

A broader cultural outlook

The cultural programme found its character in variety. Art, music and literature sat naturally alongside reflections on the wider world, offering members occasions to discover unfamiliar subjects and meet people whose experiences extended well beyond sailing.

2015–2019

Different worlds, shared ideas

Artists, specialists and storytellers brought different perspectives into the Clubhouse. The appeal lay as much in the exchange as in the subject itself: listening closely, asking a question and continuing the conversation in the company of others.

2020–2023

Curiosity that connects

Culture at the Club offered a space for thoughtful exchange around society, science, creativity and shared interests. Rather than a single theme, the programme reflected a continuing curiosity about people and the ideas that shape the world around them.

2024–2025

Closer to the conversation

Personal exchange remained central to the experience. A presentation could lead to a question, a discussion or an unexpected connection, turning a cultural evening into something more lasting than the event itself.

2026

A living cultural programme

Today, the Club’s cultural programme spans art, music, literature, health, science, society and visual culture. The Gstaad Cultural Encounters offer a more personal route into those subjects through individual guests and conversations — different ways of sharing ideas within the same community.
