Centenary Trophy

15th Edition,

Held on Thursday, 1 October 2026

The Race History

Launched by the Gstaad Yacht Club in 2011, the Centenary Trophy brings together classic yachts aged one hundred years or more for a distinctive regatta in Saint-Tropez. Inspired by Mariquita’s centenary, the event celebrates the craftsmanship, history and enduring sailing spirit of these remarkable vessels.

The race follows a pursuit format, with staggered starts determined by a specially developed handicap system. This allows yachts of different sizes and rigs to compete against one another, with the first boat across the finish line taking victory. Since its inaugural edition, the Centenary Trophy has brought generations of maritime heritage together on the water.

The Trophy

The trophy itself, handed over by GYC Honorary President or Commodore each year is also older than 100 years and was made by Wakely and Wheeler of London in 1911 (exactly 100 years before the first regatta).

Centenarian Award

As part of the Classic Boat Awards, the GYC has once again joined forces with the magazine for the Fourth Centenarian of the Year Trophy. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony in London, after having been selected by an international jury of experts.

The Gstaad Yacht Club was founded in 1998 by a group of sailor enthusiasts with the vision to “create a unique global yacht club away from the waters, instead of another local club by the waters”. The GYC was regarded with astonishment in the beginning as a club in the mountains without water and meanwhile developed to a club with about 400 members from over 30 different countries. With sailing projects on all levels from juniors to professional sailors and the launch of the Centenary Trophy regatta in 2011 it has become a solid force on the Swiss sailing scene and for classic boats.

Manrico G. Iachia, GYC Commodore, Gstaad Yacht Club

It is always a pleasure to have more and more centenarians at Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. You realize how well this heritage is looked after by owners who are deeply in love with their boats. It reflects a passion for sailing, for the sea and for a maritime ethic that must be preserved.

Pierre Roinson, President of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez

The Centenary Trophy was created 15 years ago. One of our members, the owner of Mariquita, found himself facing her 100th anniversary in 2011. There were few entries in the first edition. The fleet has grown considerably since then. We are delighted to see how far the regatta has come.
