In 2008 the Gstaad Yacht Club began a journey that, at the time, had not yet been acknowledged in the Swiss sailing world.
The Gstaad Yacht Club provided support to teams with private members engagement to attend the Olympics in 2004 in Athens (GR) and 2008 in Beijing (PRC).
Soon after these incursions in the international sailing scene, the Club officially founded the GYC Racing team aiming to support young sailing talents to represent Switzerland in the Olympic Games and other international regattas, such at the Weymouth 2012 and Rio 2016 – just to name a couple. Since the GYC has launched the Racing Team project, club members have successfully competed in international regattas and in the Olympics in the following Olympic classes: - 470, Finn, Laser Radial and Standard, Nacra 17, Star, RS:X Windsurf.
Our club support young sailors in different junior classes to help them achieve their goals. They range from very experienced juniors like Anja von Allmen, who already has a World Champion title in the Laser 4.7, to the recently joined Martin Verhulst which is at the beginning of his sailing career but with much growth potential. They are committed to achieve their goals and are willing to fight for it.
All five are part of the Swiss Sailing Team and the GYC is their common home away from home whenever they visit Gstaad!
